Kelly Education names Katie Reagan 2022 National Substitute Educator of the Year
In conjunction with National Teacher Appreciation Day, Katie Reagan selected as one of four recipients among thousands of substitute educators across the U.S.
National Teacher Appreciation Week serves as a reminder to schools, parents, and communities to honor teachers’ contributions to students’ lives. In celebration, Katie Reagan, a Teachers on Call (TOC) early childhood substitute teacher in the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191, has been selected by Kelly Education (KE) as one of four recipients of the National Substitute Educator of the Year award for the 2021-22 school year.
A resident of Shakopee, Minnesota, Reagan was selected from nearly 1,100 submissions for her outstanding performance and excellent service as a substitute educator in the district. Reagan’s nomination demonstrated how she enriches the lives of students and peers in their school community.
“Katie Reagan’s regular presence has been critical this year as we continued to be in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic—I honestly don’t know what we would have done without her,” said Dr. Carolyn J. Cherry, early learning supervisor at Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 in Burnsville, Minnesota. “During the most challenging days when multiple staff members were out with COVID, Katie was there to help ensure we were able to provide services to our students consistently and with integrity. Her current job demands a great deal of flexibility, attention to detail, and compassion. Katie demonstrates these attributes through her ability to sub in both our center-based and integrated classrooms, organize lessons for the day, and support the individual needs of each student.”
As one of four KE national winners, Reagan will receive an award certificate, a $5,000 bonus, and an additional $1,500 to donate to the school of her choice within the district. She will also be recognized at a special celebration held on Wednesday, May at Diamondhead Education Center, 200 W. Burnsville Pkwy, Burnsville.
When asked what she likes most about being a substitute teacher, Reagan replied, “I enjoy working with children and enjoy the flexibility of helping in different classrooms. Plus, I’ve been able to build strong and trusting relationships with the school staff. Each day is different, and you get to use your skills helping children grow in their education.”
As part of a long-standing tradition and an integral component in recognizing substitute educators for the vital role they hold in the schools they serve, KE revamped its recognition program this year, increasing the prize fund and expanding the program to recognize educators across multiple disciplines. With more than 69 thousand educators in the KE workforce, four national winners were selected, representing the highest achievement a KE substitute educator can receive.
“Katie Reagan is a true representative of the high-quality educators Kelly Education provides to its partner schools each day,” said Nicola Soares, president of Kelly Education, the largest provider of substitute teachers nationwide. “She is dedicated to treating the students and staff she serves with the utmost dignity and care. We are proud to recognize her commitment with this honor.”
