District 191 Community Education director receives statewide award

Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Community Education Director Jason Sellars has been selected as a 2024 Community Educator of Excellence award winner for Region 5 by the Minnesota Community Education Association (MCEA). 

The MCEA is a professional community of educators across Minnesota committed to promoting the impact of community education for individuals, families and communities. Each year, the MCEA recognizes the outstanding work of community educators who go above and beyond to make a positive impact on their local communities. These individuals are the unsung heroes who, through their dedication and tireless efforts, enhance the lives of community members by providing valuable education and resources.

Sellars was nominated by Community Education Supervisor Allison Jordan. In her nomination, she wrote: “Director Sellars is innovative and creative in improving department outcomes. He is committed to community engagement with his strong connections within the school district community and local organizations who focus on educational initiatives. Jason is an advocate for educational equity. He is a champion of diversity, equity and inclusion in education ensuring all students have equal access to quality learning opportunities. Director Sellars is seen as a district leader and mentor inspiring others to excel. Jason has a strong commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. He stays updated with current education trends and best practices. These qualities collectively set Director Sellars apart by highlighting his dedication, innovation, and positive impact on the staff, families, and students as well as the broader 191 community.”

Sellars will be presented with the award during the 2024 MCEA Fall Conference Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
